The Movement Initiative
Who we are.
We are a south coast registered charity which has been formed with the aim of helping dancers achieve their full potential. We provide opportunities, facilities and classes for dancers to learn, excel and perform regardless of age or ability.
About us
A Portsmouth based voluntary “movement”, created in 2008 and previously known as “2nd 2 Nun”. We re-branded as a community interest company & adopted the name “the Movement Initiative” in September 2014. The cic became formally inadequate for our desire to do more within our community so in 2015 we re-registered as a charity. This allowed us to work closely with young dancers in Portsmouth and along the south coast to help them achieve their full potential, build relationships with like-minded creatives and develop into teachers and leaders within the community.

We are heavily focused on the advancement in the art of dance through the provision of education, opportunities & facilities.

We have built an Academy of Excellence consisting of 60 dancers who compete all over Europe.

We provide “drop-in” classes for all age groups at an affordable rate. These classes allow us to train and develop dancers until they are ready to be an active part of the Academy of Excellence. It also allows us to provide teaching opportunities to the young leaders who emerge from the Academy of Excellence. We host a variety of teachers across a number of different styles.
